Waffles at Wimbly Lu

OH YES. I finally tried the Waffles with ice cream ($8.50) at Wimbly Lu after hearing so much about it! The waffles come in only one conventional flavour, and you can choose between maple syrup or chocolate sauce drizzle. The waffle was crispy, light, and super yum with the icing sugar sprinkle.

For ice cream, you can choose from among - Vanilla bean, Chocolate truffle, Strawberry, Salted caramel, Rum & raisin, Honey cinnamon, Cheesecake, and Milo. We went with strawberry because my friend loves everything strawberry (I'd have wanted to try Milo or Honey cinnamon!). Strawberry is normally the last flavour I'd pick for ice cream, so I wasn't expecting much but I was surprised at how good it was.

The Lemon Meringue Pie ($7) had a very smooth lemony middle layer which wasn't too sour nor sweet. Just right. The meringue layer was also not too thick nor sweet. I have a newfound respect for good meringue after struggling to make a good one when I bake! My friends and I liked this too. (Waffles are still the winner though.)

The Molten Lava Cake ($6) there is awesome too. It comes in a tiny ramekin but the melted chocolate inside is oooohzing and indulgently sweet. Just what you want in a lava cake. The outer layer of this cake is hard and crisp, very unlike the Molten Chocolate Cake at Chili's ($15), which is served in the shape of a volcano, soft and moist, with the melted chocolate flowing out like real lava when you dig into it with a fork. I personally prefer the one at Chili's because it's huge, soft, warm, with a huge chocolate ball encasing vanilla ice cream on top...but then, it also costs almost triple. Wimbly Lu's one has good taste for money (:

The Broccoli Soup ($6) was quite rich, there were carrot bits inside too. The broccoli can't really be tasted though. It was more like Vegetable Soup, every spoonful was just veggies and carrots for us. The garlic bread that came with it was thin and super crispy, great for people who like it that way. I prefer more volume and softness in my breads.

I had the Beef Cottage Pie ($13), which was really good. It reminded me of shepherd's pie, with minced beef, corn, and carrots as filling. The potato layer on top was not too thick. I didn't get sick of this, but the savouriness of it also meant that I had to drink water quite often when my palette got overwhelmed with the taste.

My friend had the Vegetarian Lasagne ($10), which was 'okay'. It tasted just like lasagne should - cheesy. Nothing to complain about.

And the Truffle Fries ($7) were GOOD. I'm not a fan of truffle OR fries, but I kept reaching out for this. They were so crispy and easy to eat without being too salty. Reminded me of the fries at McDonald's! The truffle wasn't overwhelming either, otherwise I'd have steered clear of this one.

Apparently their Iced Chocolate with Baileys ($12) had a strong Bailey's flavour. Awesome for you if you like Bailey's! I couldn't drink more than a sip.

Their Seafood Baked Rice ($12) apparently didn't have much seafood in it; it had chicken and mushrooms, according to my friend who had it. Makes you wonder why it's called seafood baked rice. I didn't manage to get a good photo of it. The taste wasn't too bad though.

Wimbly Lu's full name is in fact Wimbly Lu Chocolates. Look at this collection! Maybe I'll try them next time.

Wimbly Lu is generally the go-to place for desserts and drinks, so the dinner crowd (at least on a weekday night) isn't much. We arrived after 7pm and didn't have to wait for a table because the place was quite empty. The crowd started coming in close to 9pm when we were almost done with our meal. So, go early!
